There is no 'Kraken' in the cartoon either; just a substitution of Liberty for the Medusa.

Is the cartoonist saying Liberty is a Medusa turning us to stone if we look upon her?

First of all, the bail out is being done by the European Union, not America. Second, if the bailout doesn't happen, contagion and panic will spread all over Europe and eventually weaken our own markets.

We're doing this at a time when we are swimming in red. Who will bail out the US, eager Jake? Or, for that matter, is it even doable?

Solution: let the fools who worship at the Ba'al of centralized economics watch their idol crumble.
