It's 3:00 AM. Do You Know Where Your Obama Is?
09/07/2008
Iraq has been the political fulcrum by which campaigns have been won and lost for nearly 8 years, and Obama has not been correct at all in any of those years. Let's look at the record.
During the lead up to the Iraq war, Saddam Hussein had been flouting the international community as 10 years and 18 resolutions passed from the United Nations. You see, it is easy to forget that the first gulf war ended in a ceasefire, which was stipulated on continuous weapons inspection programs from the United Nations. Hence, we had every legal cause to go into Iraq.
Saddam Hussein gave the world every indication that he had a nuclear and biological program with his flat expulsion of weapons inspectors, as well as international suspicion. Both Clintons, Madeline Albright, John Kerry, Jay Rockefeller, Evan Baye, Sandy Berger, and an army of Democrats all agreed with the Administration's stance on Iraq's weapons systems. It was also widely understood and still is that Iraq was funding terrorism against Israel via Hezbollah and Palestinian suicide squads. His regime partnered with Yasser Arafat of the PLO to sponsor the bereaved families of martyrs, and they financially incentivized terrorism on Israel, to possibly ignite a war in the region.

Furthermore, the Islamic world could imbibe all the food and medical aid that we could shower on them, but as far as Al Jazeera is concerned, nobody on the Arab street would hear about it. Unless there were a fundamental overhaul against such regimes that oppress, neglect, and impoverish their people, there would be no long-term inoculation against the hate that breeds fundamentalist terrorism.
John McCain and the Bush Administration realized this. Obama did not.
After the yawning and bribed European powers shirked their responsibilities at the UN (those that were bribed under the Oil for Food Program), we had no other option but to go to war. Barack Obama, whose Sandinista-minded foreign policy views the US as an evil empire, would vote down war no matter how compelling the circumstances! No wait, I forgot he wants to carpet-bomb our ally Pakistan. After the invasion of Iraq, Barack Obama went on to denounce false timetables until they would be a greater political convenience to him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kFrFIFizkU
Although Obama voted for the war supplements after it had begun, he stopped when he began running for president against Hillary as the anti-war candidate. He consistently urged Bush to establish a deadline, which he had previously denounced in 2004 as irresponsible, and then extended the sentiment by voting against the Surge that has put victory in the palm of our hands.
Thus far, cowboy diplomacy has won us:
1. A pro-American, pro-capitalism president in France, Nicolas Sarkozy, who defeated Socialist Segolene Royal.
2. A pro-American sweep as the Chancellorship of Germany was passed to Angela Merkel
3. Democratic revolution in Lebanon that pushed out Syria and made a statement about it in 2006.
4. Normalized relations with Lybia, which has gone from a sworn enemy and terrorist state to an ally. After the capture of Saddam Hussein, Muammar Quaddafi relinquished all of his nation's uranium and publicly denounced Mideast terrorism and posturing. Today, Quaddafi's WMD materials are at a lab in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
5. A democracy in Iraq that has met more milestones than our own 2006 do-nothing Congress.
6. A strong democratic ally in the small nation of Georgia, and control over transcontinental pipelines.
7. A democracy in the heart of the Middle East.
8. Tribal reconciliation inasmuch as Shia and Sunni now fight side-by-side against Al Qaeda.
9. Ending a state sponsor of terrorism against Israel.
10. Shining a light on bribery and corruption in the United Nations.
11. The highest military enlistment rates in years.
If we had listened to Obama's pullout advice, sectarian violence would have erupted into civil war, Iranian hegemony, and Iraqi oil wells in the hands of Al Qaeda. Global extremists would have seen us as a paper tiger and rejoiced throughout the streets, and the rest of the sane world would see us as a gambler who welches on his bet. Our military morale would be crushed for a decade. And you can be darned sure that the price of gas would have skyrocketed. Could it be that liberal bedwetters need to learn to give nod to accomplishments that they don't own?
What is sad out of all this is that victory has only become an utterance for Obama's campaign, not our troops. He won't even acknowledge what has been accomplished! And now he has the audacity to travel to Iraq and reap the benefits of a situation that he was too politically cowardly to earn?
Give me a break. >>
