Jon Stewart: Democrat Cheerleader >>
03/22/2009
Most Republicans accept the fact that our beliefs are considered passé, crusty, old-timey, and gauche, and it is no secret that Hollywood serves this end as well. I often find myself laughing at my own expense in a political joke. Then I get tired of it always being at my expense, invariably.
Enough already.
The Daily Show boasted a powerful viewership audience of roughly 2.3 million viewers on the Cramer interview, and the Colbert Report with another whopping 1.2 million average in its opening week (I would suspect there is large overlap betwixt the two), mostly of young, jaded college students whose apathy towards policy is preyed upon with something promising extensive humor and solid writing to fill the interest void. Quick jabs do not make policy work, its merits do. But that is not what counts in the voting booth.
What we have on Comedy Central is Stewart, who goes on relentless screeds in granular arguments against Conservative ideology, and then makes fun of a Democrat for being bald or fat. Shortly thereafter is Stephen Colbert, a Liberal posing as a Conservative every night, in order to ridicule what he supposedly believes. The scenario is that of the sensible Liberal flanked by quirky correspondents, followed by the maniac buffoon Neocon who poses as a self-drawn caricature. Hence, Stewart is written to appear as the only sane one in that whole bungle. He and what he espouses, that is. So it is that I smirk when I hear an 11th grader droll on that he picks on everybody, in light of the fact his attacks on Liberals are never ideological, and Colbert purposefully poses weak arguments that can be glibly knocked down by guests, in order, of course, to demonstrate the alleged failings of conservatism. The advertising genius of it is stellar.
Case in point: Jon Stewart is all about the gays, and has a queer eye for every Republican foolish enough to appear on his mocking, jeering, and edited show. He ripped Bill Bennett and Mike Huckabee for standing with 75% of America on opposing gay marriage, as the correct form thereof has bolstered human civilization for eons since the Hebraic nation Stewart originally hails from. But let’s look at the opposite coin:
Guest: President Clinton
Stance: Opposed to homosexual marriage
Confronted on stance: No
Guest: Barack Obama
Stance: Opposed to homosexual marriage
Confronted on stance: No
Guest: Al Gore
Stance: Opposed to homosexual marriage
Confronted on stance: No
Guest: John Kerry
Stance: Opposed to homosexual marriage
Confronted on stance: No
Starting to see the pattern? Now standing outside of Stewart’s unpopular NAMBLA/livestock push, I would imagine that Jon (or any devotee for that matter) would speak truth to power and apply pressure to his own party to affect his desired change. That is, if he truly believes in the cause. But he won’t. The gay question is merely a tool to prop a Republican to be booed by a hard leftist audience, which is supposed to represent an accurate cross section of everyday Americans.
Now that Bush is out of office, naturally Stewart has replaced him in the line of succession with Barack Obama...nope... Jim Cramer! Who else? Truth to power, on a subject in which Stewart is not expert nor deft. The complexities of the market as well as the mistakes of George Soros and Warren Buffett go utterly ignored; let Jim be the scapegoat. What is more to me is that Cramer is an Obamanite, and it tickles my fancy to see the hot Liberal-on-Liberal action. But then I see a little bit of me in Cramer as I watch his blinking disbelief at Stewart’s affronts, built on Stewart’s financial ignorance and scripted quips… all the labors of a team of like-minded writers.
My empathy is piqued.
I think it is twisted that Liberals believe that Bush would sick media allies on critics, while Rush and Cramer were dogpiled by the leftist machine the moment they impugned God’s divinity, and by God I mean Obama, of course. So I stand with Jim Cramer.
Do I think we should fuss about Stewart? By no means. That would make us look as petty as Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, chasing every voice of dissent. Rather, we need to ramp up our creative capacities since there is so very much about Liberalism that begs and pleads to be made fun of! That is part of why I built The Draking Point >>, and I hope all of you will follow in this path. Stewart edits, does not yield transcripts, and plays both sides while overtly pledging allegiance to one. We can match him. >>
